*Note: My name has changed from Kelly Murphy back to Kelly Brand, sorry if there's any confusion! Also, I have undertaken quite an adventure: I have moved from my lifelong home of Georgia and now I'm settled in Beverly Hills, CA. I've only been here a short while, but I love it! Now, back to your regularly scheduled artist statement:Thanks for stopping by my page, I hope you enjoy your visit.
I have been drawing and painting since I was a very small child. I'm happy to say that I inherited a bit of my father's talent, and it has been a joy to be able to transfer my feelings onto canvas or paper.
I received an associate's degree in art, then caved under pressure to pursue a more "normal" line of work, so I went back to school and became a Registered Nurse. I found that babies were the only patients that I had patience for (pun intended). It was great working with infants-I enjoyed the healthy babies, but I felt a greater pull to work with the babies who weren't so fortunate in their circumstances and ended up in the Neonatal Intensive Care. I actually used my skills as an artist while in the hospital. I would draw the infants while they were sleeping in their isolettes, all hooked up with tubes and wires. When I finished, I would give it to the parent(s). Most were touched and thankful that I spent a moment thinking of their child beyond the realm of what my job called for, and it gave me the utmost pleasure to give a little sunshine to a family who were very worried about their child.
While I enjoyed working in the well baby unit and NICU, I always felt a longing to go back to my first love, art, so I abruptly quit my job and started painting again. I have never been happier!
My work is definitely eclectic, I like to jump around from subject to subject, as you can see in my gallery. I try to bring a little fun and humor to my art, and I enjoy making humorous statements. I hope you enjoy viewing my artwork, and encourage any comments and communication.
Sincerely,
Kelly O. Brand
